New year, new you! Now it’s time to get serious and set some ballroom dance goals for the new year! Unfortunately, staying committed is another story. We all know it’s easier said than done when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions.

Life is already so busy, and one way to add even more stress to our daily lives: keeping up with our resolutions! They usually last a month or two before our schedules become even more packed than the year before.

According to Reader’s Digest, here are some of the most common New Year’s resolutions:

  • Get in shape
  • Eat healthy
  • Reduce stress
  • Learn something new
  • Enjoy life to the fullest
  • Spend more time with friends and family

Sounds like more things to add to your already busy to-do list. Adding dancing to the schedule sounds even crazier, but could actually help you achieve all of those goals with one activity!

Getting in shape is hard, but maintaining it is even harder — we get it! But dancing makes it feel less like work and more like fun, so achieving your goals will be easier than ever! Once you start dancing, you’ll realize how much your body will need good nutrients to nourish your body. (Read our past blog post about DanceEdge owner and teacher, Jeff Goltiao’s guide to nutrition for dancing). So stick to dance and you’ll be well on your way to achieving those first two goals on your list!

Dancing is a skill — something learned and practiced, but never perfected. It’s a non-stop learning adventure, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. You gain so much more than just the technique and footwork–you also become more confident, elevate your body awareness and posture, and so much more!

Whether you take lessons with a friend, spouse or by yourself, you have the opportunity to meet and socialize with new people, or build and rekindle old relationships! Dancing allows you to take what you learn in the studio and show off your skills whether that is during a night out on the town, during a competition, or just dancing in your kitchen!

When we start living life to the fullest, our stress lowers and experiences become more vibrant. Take the first step towards a new adventure and learn to dance! The ordinary moments start to become extraordinary, and that’s when you start accomplishing your goals. Dance allows you to express yourself in ways you probably didn’t know — so here’s to learning more about yourself, taking risks and honoring your efforts and achievements!

So say hello to the start of 2018 and take the first step toward accomplishing ALL of your goals with ballroom dancing!
