Winter is here, and as an athlete and artist — because let’s be real, dance is both — it’s so important to keep yourself healthy and prepared for the cold weather so you can feel your best during every lesson.
Besides the weather, there are a number of issues that set in during the winter months: tiredness and fatigue, illness, and just the downright miserable cold climate. To ensure you’re getting the most out of your lessons, here are a few things that will help you feel your best during the cold winter months.
What To Wear
This might seem obvious, but it’s so crucial to dress warm and to also keep yourself warm while you’re training. Outerwear is just as important as wearing leg warmers or sweater while you’re warming up for your lesson. Always layer up.
Warm Up
Before your lesson, make sure you’re stretching and going through the basics so you’re ready to jump right into your lesson with warm muscles. In the winter, your muscles are tighter and less resilient, which makes it easier to pull or strain our muscles, so it’s crucial to take the time to warm up before the start of every lesson.
Stay Healthy
Of course, we want to make sure we are providing our body with the best nutrients, but winter makes it hard to stay on track, especially when sugar seems to provide more comfort in the winter. Warm yourself from the inside out. Trust us, we know how hard it is to stay focused on eating healthy, but your body will thank you in the long run. Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated!
Now you’re ready to take on new steps during these frigid months. Taking these preventative steps are so important in order to make sure you’re getting the most out of your lessons, while also stay healthy both physically and mentally. Now, let’s dance!
